The U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will impose a 50% tariff on all EU imports to the US from June 1 after claiming trade talks between the two trading blocs were “going nowhere”.
He accused the EU of being “very difficult to deal with” and “discussions with them are going nowhere” in a post shared to his social media platform, Truth Social.
According to President Trump, "The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on TRADE". In his post, Trump listed a series of accusations against EU policies, including their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies.
President Trump stated that all these factors have resulted in a trade deficit with the EU exceeding $250 billion annually, a figure he called " totally unacceptable".
